NCIS: Origins Season 2: What We Know After the Surprising End of Season 1

The first season of NCIS: Origins has finished, and it had a surprising ending that has big effects on what might happen next in the show. This prequel, which shows us how Leroy Jethro Gibbs (played by Austin Stowell) started his career, has been liked by many people. Luckily, CBS has already said there will be a second season. Here’s what we know so far about NCIS: Origins Season 2.

Second Season Confirmed

Good news for fans! CBS said there would be a second season of NCIS: Origins in February 2025. This was even before the last episode of season one on April 28th. This early announcement shows that the TV station believes in the show and thinks it can keep telling the story of how a favorite NCIS character became who he is.

Season 1 Ending Left Us Hanging

The last episode of season one, called “Cecilia,” had a surprising and dramatic end that has left fans wondering what will happen to a key character. In a sad turn of events, Gibbs’s teammate and close friend, Lala Dominguez (Mariel Molino), was in a bad car accident. The episode ended with Lala unconscious and badly hurt after she turned her car suddenly to avoid hitting a child.

This dramatic ending has made people wonder if Lala will live and what her future on the show will be. The people in charge of the show, Gina Lucita Monreal and David J. North, haven’t said much about what will happen to her. However, they have said how important Lala has been in Gibbs’s life. Mark Harmon, who tells the story as the older Gibbs, said in the last episode, “This is a story I don’t tell. I can’t find the words. But it never stops going through my head. The story of her.” This narration strongly suggests that Lala’s story, no matter what happens to her right away, will still be a very important part of how Gibbs grows as a person.

What Might Happen in Season 2

While we don’t know all the details about what will happen in Season 2, the events at the end of Season 1 give us some ideas about possible stories:

  • What Happens to Lala: The most important question is whether Lala will survive the car crash. What happens will definitely have a big impact on Gibbs and the whole team. The showrunners have hinted that Season 2 will give us the answers to this cliffhanger.
  • Gibbs’s Feelings: In the last episode, Gibbs was dealing with the investigation into the killing of Pedro Hernandez, the man who killed his wife and daughter. The feelings he has from this, along with not knowing what will happen to Lala, will probably be a big part of Gibbs’s story in the next season.
  • Mike Franks’s Brother: The last episode also introduced a new story about Mike Franks (Kyle Schmid) and his brother, Bernard “Randy” Randolf (Caleb Foote), who contacted him after not talking for many years. Season 2 is expected to look more closely at their relationship and Randy’s wish for a desk job at NIS.
  • Gibbs and Diane: The appearance of a young Diane Sterling (Kathleen Kenny), who Gibbs will marry and then divorce later, suggests how their relationship might have started. Her being in Season 2 will likely show us the early times they spent together. Melinda McGraw famously played the older Diane in the original NCIS show.
  • How the Team Works Together: Season 1 showed us the main team at the Camp Pendleton NIS office, including Mary Jo Hayes (Tyla Abercrumbie) and Vera Strickland (Diany Rodriguez). Season 2 will probably continue to show us more about their personal stories and how their relationships with Gibbs and each other grow.

When It Might Come Out and Who Might Be In It

While CBS hasn’t said exactly when NCIS: Origins Season 2 will start, it’s likely to be shown in the fall of 2025. This is when the first season started as well.

The main actors, including Austin Stowell as Gibbs, Mariel Molino as Lala Dominguez, Kyle Schmid as Mike Franks, Tyla Abercrumbie as Mary Jo Hayes, Diany Rodriguez as Vera Strickland, and Caleb Foote 1 as Randy Randolf, are all expected to be back for the second season. However, whether Lala will be in it depends on what happens after the car crash in Season 1.

What’s Next

NCIS: Origins has done a good job of feeling like the NCIS we know while also showing us something new about how a favorite character became who he is. The surprising events at the end of Season 1 have made things more exciting and made us look forward to Season 2. Fans are eager to see how these events change the young Leroy Jethro Gibbs and the team around him as they deal with the difficult and mysterious cases of the Naval Criminal Investigative Service in the early 1990s.
