Remember that amazing movie “Crazy Rich Asians”? Well, fans have been waiting for news about a sequel for years, and things are still a bit up in the air. Here’s what we know so far:
Is there even going to be a sequel?
Good question! There’s no official confirmation from the movie studio, Warner Brothers. They’ve been talking about it since the first movie came out in 2018, but things haven’t really moved forward. It seems they’re taking their time to make sure the sequel is just as good, if not better, than the first one.
Why the wait?
There could be a few reasons. Maybe they’re having trouble finding the right story to tell next. The first movie followed the book pretty closely, and there are actually two more books in the series, “China Rich Girlfriend” and “Rich People Problems.” Picking which book to adapt and how to fit it into a movie can be tricky.
Another reason could be scheduling. The actors are all super busy, so getting everyone together at the same time might be tough.
So, what’s the story then?
If they follow the books, the sequel would likely be based on “China Rich Girlfriend.” In this story, Rachel and Nick (the happy couple from the first movie) are still together, but things get complicated. Rachel meets a long-lost relative she never knew about, and Nick faces pressure from his family about their relationship. There’s also a whole new cast of crazy rich characters to meet, so get ready for more drama and over-the-top luxury!
Who will be in the movie?
We don’t know for sure yet, but hopefully everyone from the first movie will be back! That includes Constance Wu (Rachel), Henry Golding (Nick), Gemma Chan (Astrid), and the amazing Michelle Yeoh (Eleanor). There might also be some new faces to join the fun, like Rachel’s mysterious brother and a fabulous fashion blogger (because, of course, there’s a fabulous fashion blogger!).
When will we see it?
Unfortunately, there’s no answer to this one yet. With all the behind-the-scenes stuff still happening, it’s hard to say when (or even if) the movie will be released.
Should I give up hope?
Not at all! The first movie was a huge hit, so there’s still a good chance the sequel will happen eventually. Keep an eye out for news, and maybe even re-watch the first movie to hold you over.

- Will Astrid and Peik Lin get their happy endings too?
