Mia, who is a presenter on Ireland AM, said that she was “heartbroken” by the violence and that she felt like she was “being blamed for something that I had no part in.”
“I’m not the problem,” she said. “My parents came to this country to work hard and make a better life for themselves and their children. They paid their taxes and they obeyed the law. They are not criminals.”
Mia said that she was “tired of being told that I’m not British enough” and that she was “sick of being made to feel like an outsider.”
“I was born here,” she said. “I’m as British as anyone else. I just happen to have parents who were born in a different country.”
Mia’s comments come after a series of racist riots in the UK, including one in Birmingham in July that left several people injured.
The riots have been blamed on a number of factors, including economic inequality, social deprivation, and a rise in far-right extremism.
Mia said that she believed that the government needed to do more to address the underlying causes of the riots.
“We need to invest in our communities,” she said. “We need to create jobs and opportunities for young people. And we need to tackle the far-right extremism that is fueling this violence.”
Mia said that she was also concerned about the way that the media was reporting on the riots.
“The media is focusing on the violence and the chaos,” she said. “But they’re not talking about the people who are being affected by this. They’re not talking about the families who are living in fear. They’re not talking about the businesses that have been destroyed.”
Mia called on the media to do more to report on the positive stories about immigrants and refugees.
“There are so many amazing people who have come to this country and made a positive contribution,” she said. “We need to hear their stories.”
