Godzilla isn’t exactly happy with humans messing with nature, and he lets out a mighty roar (and some atomic breath) to show his displeasure. While the human characters aren’t the most memorable, the movie shines with its awe-inspiring scenes of Godzilla battling giant creatures called MUTOs. It’s a fantastic introduction to the MonsterVerse, leaving you wanting more monster mayhem.
2. Kong: Skull Island (2017): A King in His Castle
This movie takes us to a mysterious island shrouded in fog, Skull Island. A team of explorers, soldiers, and a scientist (played by the awesome Brie Larson) head there to investigate. But guess what? They’re not alone! Living on the island is a giant ape named Kong, who’s not too thrilled about visitors. The movie throws us into a thrilling adventure as the team tries to survive the dangers of the island, including giant bugs, scary dinosaurs, and of course, the mighty Kong himself. This movie is full of action, with Kong showcasing his incredible strength and agility.
3. Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019): Let Them Fight!
Remember those MUTOs Godzilla beat in the first movie? Turns out there are more Titans out there, and some of them aren’t exactly friendly. This movie focuses on a group called Monarch, who study these giant creatures. When a group of eco-terrorists try to wake up all the Titans, things get messy (and monstrous). We see Godzilla face off against some truly impressive Titans, with epic battles that light up the screen. While the human story takes a bit of a backseat this time, the monster action is incredible, making this a must-watch for any kaiju (monster) fan.
4. Godzilla vs. Kong (2021): The Showdown We’ve All Been Waiting For!
This movie finally delivers what the title promises: Godzilla vs. Kong! We learn that Kong has grown a lot since his Skull Island days, and there’s some tension between him and the big G. The movie doesn’t waste any time, throwing us right into the action as these two titans clash. There are epic fights on land, at sea, and even in Hong Kong (not a great day for the city’s tourism industry). While the human story might feel a bit forgettable, the action is top-notch, with some truly jaw-dropping moments.
5. Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire (2024): A New Threat Emerges
(This movie just came out, so there are some spoilers ahead, be warned!)
The newest entry in the MonsterVerse takes things to a whole new level. After Godzilla and Kong teamed up to defeat a bigger threat in the previous movie, they have to face a new enemy: a mechanical titan created by humans! This movie explores the consequences of messing with nature and the power of working together. It has action, humor, and even some surprising character moments. While it’s still early to say for sure, “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” might just be the best MonsterVerse movie yet!
